Tom Liddy was born on 1962 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. the fourth of Gordon and Frances Liddy's five children. Tom's mom was a public school teacher and his dad was an Asst. District Attorney in Dutches County, N.Y.
The Liddy Family moved to a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C. in 1970 when Tom's dad accepted an appointed position to work for President Richard Nixon.
Tom grew up with his brothers and sisters in Maryland. In 1977, he accepted a scholarship to attend St. Albans School, a college preparatory school in Washington, D.C. Tom joined the school swim team and won the conference championship his freshman year. He was named team captain as a junior and met another swimmer, Stacy Gretkowski, a student at the National Cathedral School. Tom and Stacy went out on their first date in October, 1980. (They saw the movie My Bodyguard). They married eleven years later.
After graduating high school, Tom worked as an administrative clerk in a Washington, D.C. law firm to save up enough money to travel around the world. He went to Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, Bali, Cairo, Alexandria, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Stockholm.
In 1986, Tom received is BA in history at Fordham College, the same college his two brothers, Jim and Ray, his dad and his grandfather attended. Tom was sworn in as a U.S. Marine on December 28, 1982. He spent his summers in Quantico, Virginia at the United States Marine Corps' Officer Candidates School. He spent his junior year abroad in Jakarta Indonesia where he studied Economics and Theology and learned to speak Bahasa Indonesia, the native tongue.
In April, 1985, Tom accepted a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the Marines. He served on active duty from 1986 until 1989. He was an 81MM mortar platoon commander and later the XO of Weapons Company 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines. He served in Camp Lejeune, NC; Okinawa, Japan; The Republic of Korea; and the Republic of the Philippines. Tom left the Second Marine Division in 1989 and headed back to Fordham to study law. He remained in the Marine Reserves until 1997.
Tom and Stacy married on August 17, 1991, while Tom was in law school and Stacy was teaching 5th grade. Tom graduated from Fordham Law School in 1992. He worked in a Washington, D.C. law firm until 1995 when he was appointed Deputy Counsel of the Republican National Committee by Haley Barbour. Tom served as a legal counsel for the Republican National Convention in San Diego in 1996.
In 1998, Tom and Stacy moved to Arizona. Tom is an attorney in Phoenix. He ran for Congress in the Republican primary in 2000, losing the Rep. Jeff Flake. He served as the Executive Director of the Institute for Justice, Arizona Chapter for a year helping launch the Institute's first state chapter. He was elected Maricopa County Republican Chairman in 2003. He co-hosts a daily talk show with Austin Hill on KKNT.
Tom and Stacy have four children, Purcell (13), George (10), Caroline (7) and Tommy (2). They live in Chandler, Arizona.
